MANGALDAI: On the last day of filing nomination papers for the Assembly election for the second phase scheduled on April 1, a total of 28 candidates in the four LACs of Darrang district filed their nomination papers on Friday before the respective Returning Officers.

These included former ministers Durga Das Boro of Bodoland People's Front (BPF), Basanta Das of the Congress and Dalgaon legislator Illias Ali of the Congress. The 65 Kalaigaon LAC witnessed the highest number of candidates. They are Durga Das Boro of BPF, Madhu Deka of BJP, Jadab Saikia of AJP, Kalam Azad of UPPL, Pankaj Asom of Raijor Dal, Jitendra Chaliha of SUCI, Bhagawan Deka of VPI, independent candidates Kanu Ram Saikia, Dulal Barua, Kamal Choudhury, Radheshyam Chouhan and Rakesh Boro. In 66 Sipajhar LAC, Kuldip Barua of Congress, Gitika Kakaty of AJP, Hareswar Deka of VPI, Ashiful Nessa of Rastriya Ulema Council and independent candidates Arun Barua and Amiya Deka.

In 67 Mangaldai (SC) LAC, Basanta Das of Congress, Gakul Barua of AJP, Moti Lal Mondal and Ajoy Roy of AIUDF, Jitendra Sarkar of VPI and independent candidate Ranendra Sarkar. In 68 Dalgaon LAC, Illias Ali of Congress, Habibar Rahman of AGP, Saiful Hoque of VPI and independent candidate Arab Ali filed their nomination papers.
