KOKRAJHAR: The Assam Law Colleges Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff Association (ALCTNTSA) successfully completed its second year on September 1 this year and with this, the tenure of the Central Executive Council (CEC) of the association came to an end.

The joint secretary of the association, Preeta Brahma who is also Principal (I/C) of Kokrajhar College, informed that the association had organized its second annual general meeting online and it was presided over by the president of the association, Dr. Gautomi Dutta Borah on Monday. In the meeting, a new CEC of the association was formed to look after the office of the association and to continue the various activities associated with it.

Brahma said in the meeting, the members of the association lamented that the Government of Assam had made an announcement to allot Rs 33 crore for the establishment of 10 new government law colleges in the State without mentioning about the existing law colleges of Assam that were imparting legal education and producing human resources since Independence. The association, from time to time, has been submitting multiple memoranda seeking for financial grant or provincialization of the teachers and staff of these law colleges but there was continuous ignorance by the government in this regard. The annual report of the association placed in the meeting made it obvious that the association had never stopped and compromised with its duty even during the lockdown period, including donating to Arogya Nidhi to help the government to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

The association has been organizing online lecture series and webinars without charging any fee from the participants in order to provide quality education to the student community of the State and nation and to create a law-literate society.
