Kokrajhar: Three persons were arrested in Patgaon area of Kokrajhar on Saturday night while two minor girls who became unconscious after being sprayed were admitted at RN Brahma Civil Hospital the same night. People in Kokrajhar, particularly female students, are spending sleepless nights as theft and sexual assault attempts are going on in the district.

Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh said that on Saturday night at 10.45 pm they received information that unknown miscreants had sprayed something in the houses of two minor girls while they were studying and they became senseless. The incidents happened at Sonapur village at about 9 pm and Dharamtol village at about 9.15 pm. He said the villagers raised an alarm and managed to catch hold of a TVS Scooty Streak (black) with registration number AS-16B/6601. But two miscreants escaped under the cover of darkness. Both the victim girls were taken to RN Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar for treatment and admitted. They are out of danger but suffering from drowsiness, Singh said.

The Superintendent of Police said that he visited RN Brahma Civil Hospital immediately and talked to the Medical Officer on duty. He also visited both the POs and examined the witnesses. No suspicious material or container was found near the PO. Police duty has been intensified and additional force has been deployed for patrolling, he said. He also said that the situation became normal.

Singh said cases were registered and further investigation was on to find out the culprits. Owner of the Scooty, Mukesh Ray of Patgaon was picked up from Patgaon while Nehru Baruah and Haren Baruah were also picked up. Further investigation is going on.

On the other hand, the Minister of Social Welfare, Assam, Pramila Rani Brahma organized a rally in Kokrajhar town on Sunday evening against the unabated incidents of theft and sexual harassment attempts in Kokrajhar. The conscious people, however, are of the opinion that the minister, instead of organizing a rally, should give orders to the district administration to deal with the situation.
