3 GMCH doctors test positive for Covid-19, death toll climbs to 8

The 8th Covid-19 patient who passed away hailed from Baksa in the BTAD region

Guwahati: Amid a sharp spike in the number of Covis-19 cases, it has come to light that 3 Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) doctors who were in quarantine at the Vivanta by Taj in Guwahati have tested positive for the Covid-19 in Assam's Guwahati city. Additionally, an 8th person passed away from virus complications at the hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Mantu Ramchiari (50) from Baksa who was admitted and was undergoing treatment. Earlier in the day, a Covid-19 positive woman from Assam's Hailakandi has died in the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) on Friday, sending the death toll rising to 7. Officials disclosed that the latest casualty in the state, a 53-year-old resident of Bakrihower Part I under Algapur revenue circle, had gone to Delhi along with her son, who is a cancer patient. He is also undergoing treatment at the SMCH.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases in Assam has risen to 3,498, out of which 1,903 cases are active.
