SILCHAR: As many as three prisoners escaped from the quarantine cell of Karimganj district jail on Friday night. They have been identified as Wahidul Ali, Mustak Ahmed and Faizur Rahman.

After breaking window panes of their room, they scaled up the tinned roof and jumped over the boundary wall of the prison. According to a prison source, Wahidul Ali of Karimganj town was arrested by police earlier, admitted to civil hospital on ground of sickness from where he made his escape. His companion Mustak Ahmed of Patharkandi was imprisoned several times, but got bail from the Court to be back to his work.

Faizur Rahman of Hojai is a murder accused. The jail source said Faizur was sent to jail on June 10, Wahidul and Mustak on June 13 on different criminal charges. But, all of them united and planned to escape. How could they so easily despite security guard, Ataur Rahman, posted to keep watch on them? The version of the jail authority is difficult to understand and digest. According to him, Ataur Rahman got indication about their escape, but he is too heavy in body to move and keep pace with the criminals that gave them enough leeway to jump over the ball to freedom. It is to be mentioned that, four months ago, two prisoners escaped, one a Bangladeshi.
