300 kg ganja seized, one held by Sonitpur police

TEZPUR: Acting on specific information, Sonitpur police seized around 300 kg of ganja from a Bolero pick-up van plying from Arunachal Pradesh to Uttar Pradesh. The operation was led by Alimuddin Ahmed, OC, Chariduar Police Station under the supervision of Superintendent of Police of Sonitpur, Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta.

Officials sources said that the 300 kg ganja worth Rs 6 lakh was seized from a Bolero pick-up bearing registration number AS- 12AC- 4725 at Balipara area in Sonitpur district which was coming from Arunachal Pradesh. The ganja was concealed in plastic gunny bags and covered with 30 boxes. One person was arrested in this connection.

The accused was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. On enquiry, it was revealed that the ganja was sourced at Rupa in Arunachal Pradesh and was being transported to Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, sources said.

The arrested person has been identified as Maniram Kashyap. Interrogation is going on to find out linkages. A case has been registered at Chariduar PS (case no 125/20).
