347th anniversary of Battle of Saraighat observed in Joysagar

JOYSAGAR: “The great Battle of Saraighat has completed 347 years and this battle showcases the bravery and patriotism of the Assamese Army during the Ahom rule,” said Matiur Rahman, the State president of the Asom Sanmilita Mahasabha, while lighting the lamp before the portraits of Bir Lachit Borphukan and Bagh Hazarika on Monday during a function held to mark the 347th anniversary of the Battle of Saraighat in Baghdhara Pukhuri of Sivasagar town.

Hundreds of eminent social workers and leaders of many ethnic organizations took part in the function. They said that the Battle of Saraighat was an example of true patriotism and the aim of observing the function was to create awareness among the young generation about the glorious past of the State.
