35 villages affected in Dibrugarh due to heavy hailstorm

A heavy hailstorm which lashed Dibrugarh on Monday afternoon has caused extensive damaged in 35 villages of Dibrugarh.

DIBRUGARH: A heavy hailstorm which lashed Dibrugarh on Monday afternoon has caused extensive damaged in 35 villages of Dibrugarh. “A population of 2,961 under 35 villages in four revenue circles of Dibrugarh were affected due to the massive hailstorm which lashed most parts of the Dibrugarh district on Monday,” said a official of ASDMA. He said, “We have distributed 138 tarpaulin sheet to the affected household. Electric lines have been restored which were damaged during the hailstorm.”

According to official figures, 545 kutcha houses were partially damaged, 39 pucca house were partially damaged and six kutcha houses were fully damaged during the massive hailstorm. The storm which began at around 4.45pm lasted for around 10 minutes uprooting several trees and electric poles on the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) road. Several four-wheelers, two-wheelers as well as shops and business establishments on the medical college road were also damaged in the thunderstorm. The wife of Moran constituency MLA Chakradhar Gogoi who was on the way to the Assam Medical College had a lucky escape after an electric pole crashed into her vehicle.
