35th Morigaon District Day Celebrated with Zeal, Focus on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

The 35th Morigaon district Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm under the theme of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ at Morigaon school field

MORIGAON: The 35th Morigaon district Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm under the theme of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ at Morigaon school field. The flag was hoisted by MLA Ramakant Deuri in the morning. The event was attended by MLA Ramakant Deuri, former student leader Pradeep Bora. Afterwards, a colourful procession was held from the grounds of Morigaon Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School. The procession was inaugurated by MLA Ramakant Deuri and thousands of people from different parts of Morigaon district participated in the procession.

The procession ended at the school grounds through Morigaon town. This was followed by an open meeting. In his welcome speech, Deputy Commissioner Devashish Sharma expressed hope that the celebration of District Day would further strengthen love, unity and brotherhood among the people of different languages and ethnic groups in the district.

Speaking as the chief guest, National Award winning actress Malaya Goswami said that education and reforms are the keys to a girl’s advancement. The programme was attended by MLA Ramakant Deuri who said that women’s education is an important weapon to move the country forward on the path of progress. Green Oscar winner Dr. Purnima Devi Barman, a prominent environmentalist, spoke on eagle conservation. The event also felicitated Assam Civil Service Officer Dharitri Kakati Amphi, radio jockey Pranamika Bhuyan, self-employed women Deepika Shaikia, Wahidah Rahman and 8-year-old Jahnavi Goswami, who achieved medal at the national level yoga competition. The meeting was attended by Richa Bhardwaj. The event also was attended by Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad Khitish Ch. Pegu, Superintendent of Police Hemant Kumar Das, District Development Commissioner Devayani Chowdhury, Tiwa Autonomous Council Executive Member Paban Manta, Chairman Jogesh Tamuly, prominent writer Mileshwar Patar and a number of dignitaries were present.
