HAFLONG: The 36-hour Dimaraji bandh from 5am of May 14 to 5pm of May 15 which was called by the Halali Progressive Welfare Society passed off peacefully and spontaneously as there was not a single untoward incident reported so far. The bandh was called by Halali Progressive Welfare Society comprising the ex-cadres of DHD demanding immediate arrest of the culprit involved in Sontosh Hojai killing and proper implementation of Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed between government of India, government of Assam and both the faction of Dima Halam Daogah.

Mention may be made here that on April 24 at around 6 pm amidst the heavy security in the locality and number of police check point along the NH 27, Santosh Hojai was kidnapped from his house at Harangajao and on April 30 his body was recovered along NH 27 around 100 km from his home at Lailing under Langting police station in Dima Hasao district of Assam.

Jayanta Hojai, wife of Santosh Hojai along with some neighbours rushed to the Harangajao Police Station to lodge an FIR against the incident. Surprisingly the officer-in-charge of Harangajao Police Station refused to accept the FIR by stating that her husband would return by night. On the next day she again tried to lodge the FIR but again the officer-in-charge refused to accept it.

After she moved to the High Court on April 26, then only the FIR was accepted by the officer-in-charge of Harangajao Police Station. In this regard, the civil organization of Dima Hasao district urged immediate suspension of the officer-in-charge and also a compensation of rupees 1(one) crore was demanded to the family of the victim. But till date no action from the government was seen. As a result of which the people of Dima Hasao are of the opinion that they are being ignored and neglected by the authority concerned which may lead to the loss of confidence on the district administration as well as law and order.
