Guwahati: Among the 57 animals rescued from the Kaziranga National Park, 37 have been treated and released, informed by Dr Rathin Barman, Joint Director of Rescue Centre in Kaziranga National Park. Almost the entire region of the Kaziranga National Park has been affected by the floods after torrential rains across Assam.

"We have rescued about 57 animals, of which 37 animals have been treated and released," said Dr. Barman. Commenting on the recurring floods, he stated, "The frequency of big floods has increased. It is a cause of concern."

The death toll of animals in Kaziranga due to floods rose to 116 on Tuesday -- this includes 88 hog dears and 11 rhinos.  Kaziranga is home to the world's largest population of one-horned rhinos. The BBC had recently reported that several rare rhinos also lost their lives in this year's floods.

Meanwhile, with two more people losing their lives on Tuesday, the death toll in the state rose to 87. "Two more people have lost their lives in the floods in the state, taking the death toll to 87," informed the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, Government of Assam.

A total of 24,19,185 people have been affected in 24 districts of the state due to the floods. The government has set up 276 relief camps and 192 relief distribution centers across the state to help the flood-hit people.  With the water levels in many of the rivers crossing the danger mark, the flood situation in Assam continues to be grim.
