38 villages flooded due to continuous rainfall in West Karbi Anglong

DONKAMUKAM: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang directed MAC Chandra Br Chetri and Veterinary and Diary Development Board chairman Ditolal Hasnu to oversee the flood situation.

This year's first wave of flood occurred due to continuous rainfall for the past few days. The water in some part is crystal clear, said to be released by NEEPCO dam at Umrangso in Dima Hasao district. The water has submerged more than 38 villages of West Karbi Anglong and mostly in the home constituency of Tuliram Ronghang. The affected villages are Menmeji, Deramukh, Lalmati, Chitolijan, Kollongamukh, Bithung Sapori, Mugasong, Hatimura, Taradubi, Namtaradubi, Barman Gaon, Gondabil, Jalpara, Wakanta, Rengthama No:9, Rengthama No.10, Chongkan, East Bhellapara, Kulaigroup, Sildubi, Satgaon and Middle Rongkhang.

Villagers have been shifting their cooking utensils, poultry, clothes, pigs, goats and belongings to safer places since Tuesday evening. The affected people have now taking shelter on the embankment road and some on the road without maintaining social distancing.

"Our concern right now is the safety of our family and poultry, not COVID guidelines," said some affected people. The farmers have expressed deep concern as their vegetables and crops have been damaged in the flood. However, no loss of life has been reported.
