KOKRAJHAR: The 3rd BTR Accord Day was celebrated in all district and sub-divisional headquarters of BTC with the theme 'Peace and Harmony' on Friday.

The day was celebrated with various programmes that included bike rally for peace and harmony.

In Kokrajhar, the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC, Pramod Boro flagged off the bike rally for peace at BTC Secretariat in presence of Speaker Katiram Boro, MLA Lawrence Islary, EM Reo Reoa Narzihary, Wilson Hasda and other representatives. He also joined the bike rally which started from BTC Secretariat field. The rally ended at Kokrajhar Government HS&MP School playground after covering Titaguri, Khargami, new flyover, RN Brahma Road and Magurmari via Swhantinagar. A public meeting was also held at Government HS&MP School playground.

Addressing the gathering, BTC CEM Pramod Boro said the BTR Accord was signed on January 27, 2020 between the Government of India, Government of Assam, ABSU, all factions of NDFB and UBPO to bring peace and development of BTC region. He said the clauses of BTR accord were being implemented one after another and accordingly, the area extension of BTR was going to be implemented as 60 more villages had been included up to Gohpur in Sonitpur district.

"Crackdown on corruption and establishing good governance was our commitment to the people of the region, and we are fulfilling our commitment," he said. He said 68 youths who passed the written test with merit were given appointment letters on the occasion of celebration of 3rd BTR Accord Day. He also said the present BTR government had established good governance system through Centre for Effective Governance of Indian States (CEGIS).

Boro said the rehabilitation of all members of NDFB was being done and withdrawal of cases was also going on in a phased manner. He hoped that all jailed members of the NDFB would be freed as per legal procedure. Emphasizing peace, he said earlier people had fear and apprehension to come to Bodoland region but after the BTR Accord, peace had returned and all sections of people could move around without any fear and apprehension.

On the occasion of celebration of BTR Accord day, the distribution of cheques amounting to Rs 5 lakh each to Bodoland movement martyrs was started. Out of 201 martyr families in Kokrajhar, 10 martyr families were ceremonially given cheque of Rs 5 lakh on Friday. CEM Prmaod Boro ceremonially gave away the cheque to martyr families. He also distributed appointment letters to 68 youths under Veterinary department who had passed the written test.

The programme was also attended by Speaker of BTC Katiram Boro, EMs- Reo Reoa Narzihary, Wilson Hasda, MCLA Madhav Chandra Chetri, MLA Lawrence Islary, Principal Secretary Anurag Goel, Secretary NC Basumatary, Kokrajhar DC and Secretary Varnali Deka andothers.

Earlier in the morning, the CEM Pramod Boro paid floral tribute to Bodofa UN Brahma at his statue in front of the BTC Secretariat followed by plantation of trees in the Secretariat complex. After public meeting, the CEM joined the blood donation camp at RN Brahma Civil Hospital and donated blood himself.
