46th foundation day of Tinsukia District Journalists' Association observed

TINSUKIA: "It is the prime responsibility of journalists to extract real news that lies behind the curtain, mere reporting on press releases or hype announcements do not benefit the common masses, particularly in rural areas," opined Dr Madan Sarma, former journalist and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, as chief guest in the 46th foundation day programme of Tinsukia District Journalists' Association (TDJA) held at Talap Gaon Panchyat auditorium under the aegis of Saikhowa Press Club on Tuesday.

He exhorted young journalists to report based on facts with follow-up investigation. The workshop, chaired by Anuj Kalita, president of TDJA, was moderated by Ranajyoti Neog, secretary of TDJA. Two founder members- Prafulla Sarma and Arjun Baruah — were felicitated who also addressed the gathering while two other founder members-Jiten Sarma and Purnananda Baruah- could not be present on health grounds. Senior journalist Himen Bhattacharjee laid stress on legitimate rights of rural journalists. Among those present were Manabjyoti Sonowal, president of Talap Gaon Panchyat, members from 7 press clubs affiliated to TDJA, namely Tinsukia, Digboi, Margherita, Saikhowa, Sadiya, Doomdooma and Kakopathar.
