LAKHIMPUR: Along with the rest of the world, the 49th Earth Day was observed in Lakhimpur on Monday by various institutions and organizations. Millions of people across the world took to the streets on April 22 in 1970 to protest against the negative impact of 150 years of industrial development. Since then, the day has been observed as Earth Day in order to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The aim of observing the event is to encourage people to do things that benefit the earth, such as recycling more, using solar power and plant trees. This year, the event is observed with the theme: ‘Protect Our Species’, in order to create awareness to work for the protection of the threatened and endangered species of the world.

On this occasion, the 72 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC of Lakhimpur took out an awareness rally in North Lakhimpur town. The senior wing cadets along with the staff and instructors took part in the programme to disseminate the message of awareness for environmental protection. OC of the 72 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC, Colonel Anup Avasthi flagged of the rally which kicked off from Lakhimpur Girls’ College to Lakhimpur DC office and concluded at Circuit House. A plantation drive, seminar and cleanliness drives were other activities carried out on the occasion.
