50th Vijay Divas observed in Lakhimpur district

LAKHIMPUR: Along with the rest of the nation, all ranks of the 72 Assam Girls' (Independent) Company NCC, North Lakhimpur, on behalf of Officer Commanding Colonel Jasbir Singh Cheena and Senior JCO KD Bhai as Company Second in Command at unit, and all its schools and colleges spread over the districts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji celebrated the 50th Vijay Divas on Wednesday at LTK College located at Azad of Lakhimpur district.

Notably, the Vijay Divas on December 16 marks the decisive victory of the nation over Pakistan in 1971, which resulted in the liberation of East Pakistan and the creation of Bangladesh. On this very day in 1971, the Chief of the Pakistani Forces, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, along with 93,000 of his soldiers surrendered to Indian forces.

CR Boro (Veteran) from Indian Air Force, who is presently serving in Jila Sainik Board, was present in the event as chief guest. In addition to him, LTK College Principal Dr. Bubul Kumar Saikia, academic staff of the college, NCC Officer Binita Saharia, Hav Akhil G, Hav Sumer were present in the programme which was hosted by Girl Cadet Instructor Sangita.

In the event, profound homage was paid to the brave martyred soldiers of the nation by lighting earthen lamps and paying floral tributes. Moreover, two minutes silence was observed to pray for the eternal peace of the departed souls of the brave soldiers who made supreme sacrifice to save the motherland from foreign aggression. Cadet Asharani Nath recited a self-composed patriotic poem commemorating the martyrs. The chief guest delivered an inspiring lecture highlighting the significance of Vijay Divas. He appealed to the upcoming generation to come forward to join the Indian Armed Forces to serve the nation.
