TEZPUR: A total of 5,109 beneficiaries of Sonitpur district received land pattas and allotment certificates at a ceremonial function held at the District Library auditorium in Tezpur on Saturday.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh, CEO Zilla Parishad Diganta Baishya, MLA of Sootea, Padma Hazarika, MLA of Borsola, Ganesh Limboo, Additional Deputy Commissioners Parag Kakaty and Satyajit Chetia and other dignitaries.

Delivering the welcome address, Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh said that the Sonitpur district administration had been making all out efforts to give land pattas to around 5,000 beneficiaries as directed by the Chief Minister of Assam and had managed to surpass the target of 4,500 as fixed by the government. He urged the indigenous people to be aware about their rights so that people from outside the district could not come and encroach upon their lands.

Speaking at the function, MLA of Sootea, Padma Hazarika hailed the steps initiated by the present State Government to give land rights to the landless people of the State and thanked Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for taking special interest in preserving the rights of the indigenous people.

MLA of Borsola, Ganesh Limboo said that the government had shown its commitment to ensure land rights of the indigenous people of the State by allotting land pattas to a total of one lakh people in the State on Saturday.

A total of 5,000 beneficiaries received land allotment certificates of a total area of 3,245 bighas 4 kathas and 13 lessas while another 109 small tea growers received allotment certificates of a total area of 836 bighas 3 kathas and 8 lessas in today's programme.
