510th birth anniversary of Bir Chilarai observed at Dhakuakhana

LAKHIMPUR: The 510th birth anniversary of Bir Chilarai was observed in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district on Sunday. The event was organized by the Dhakuakhana district unit of Koch Rajbonshi Sanmilani in association with the Harhi regional unit of the organization at the Gobindapur MV School premises in a festive environment. Along with the event, the biennial session of the Dhakauakhana district unit of the organization was also held.

The agenda of both events kicked off with the unfurling of the flag by Dhakuakhana district unit Koch Rajbonshi Sanmilani president Sureswar Borah. Social activists Narayan Rai garlanded the statue of Bir Chilarai paying profound tribute to him.

In the public meeting organized on the occasion, the organization expressed vehement resentment against the governments at the Centre and the State for not granting tribal status to the Koch community despite initiating long-term agitation programmes for the same. In this regard, the organization took several resolutions and once again reiterated the demand to grant the community tribal status.
