510th Chilarai Jayanti observed in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: “The community that doesn’t know how to pay respect to the iconic personalities of past, cannot shape the same for its amelioration in future. Chilarai is not only a valorous warrior but such a personality whose ideology should be adhered to bring comprehensive betterment of Assam and the Assamese community,” said Rukma Gohain Baruah, Principal of Lakhimpur Post Graduate Training College, on Sunday while taking part as the appointed speaker of the 510th Chilarai Jayanti celebration held at Naoboicha on Sunday.

The event was organized by Lakhimpur district units of Koch Rajbonshi Sanmilani, All Koch Rajbonshi Students’ Union, Yuva Sanmilani and Mahila Sanmilani under the auspices of the Naoboicha regional units of the organizations. The agenda of the event began with unfurling of flag by the celebration committee president and litterateur Nityananda Senapati while AKRSU flag was unfurled by district president Dipak Borah. Chilarai’s statue was garlanded by Surya Borah while District Koch Rajbonshi Sanmilani secretary-in-charge Prabin Borah administered the smriti tarpan. The open session organized on this occasion commenced with District Koch Rajbonshi Sanmilani president Tarun Dutta in the chair. In the programme, Rukma Gohain Baruah highlighted the life and works of Chilarai, the true patriot in the history of the State.
