Guwahati: The number of COVID-19 infected policemen in Dima Hasao district of Assam has come down to zero after five more personnel recovered from the dreaded virus on Friday, July 25. Another policeman who had been infected by the virus was discharged earlier after recovering from the contagious disease.

Making the announcement, GP Singh, Assam ADGP (Law and Order) wrote on Twitter, "Our #CoronaWarriors Lnk Jakir Hussain Choudhury and 4 others of Manderdisa outpost joined their duty after beating Corona with an iron hand. They were found CoOVID-19 positive on July 2 and released from Haflong Civil Hospital after recovery. Proud Iron-Men!"

"All the cops who had tested positive in Dima Hasao are fine and dandy. We are taking all the precautions in the police force to ensure that there is not an outbreak of the COVID-19. We have provided masks, gloves, etc. Whenever a positive case is detected in the police force, we sanitize the barracks. When a sample is taken, the person is sent to quarantine until the results come out", said Jayant Kumar, the Police SP of Dima Hasao.

Singh further opined that the "situation is improving" in Dima Hasao across the board. "The Council has made it a point to test the people coming into the state. They are even checking the people carrying goods. As a consequence, we receive a few positive cases here and there, but the situation overall is encouraging", he said.

Although the number of COVID-19 infected personnel among the Assam Police is quite high, the number of recoveries has also been rising at a steady rate. Out of the 1,046 police personnel who contracted the virus in Assam, 730 have recovered; this leaves the number of active cases at 313.

Tragically, 3 police personnel in Assam have so far succumbed to death following virus-related complications. Dibrugarh cop Puni Mech Paul became the latest casualty in the Assam Police on Wednesday, July 23. Mech, a woman police constable from Namrup, was reportedly suffering from kidney problems and was admitted to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) on July 19.
