GUWAHATI: Hojai Deputy Commissioner has declared that various schools in Lumding will be closed from January 5 to January 11 amid covid 19.

Kendriya Vidyalaya, Prananbananda Vidyamandir, Binapani LP School, Railway Higher Secondary, Don Bosco School, and South Lumding High School are among the schools that would be closed for a week.

It should be noted that COVID-19 instances are fast increasing, prompting the district administration to close schools for a week.

So far, the virus has infected 58 people in the community. From today, the district administration will conduct COVID tests for passengers at the railway station.

According to the National Health Mission (NHM) report, the number of new COVID-19 infections in Assam jumped to 475 on Tuesday, representing a 35 percent increase in a single day.

The new cases, which were 124 more than those reported on Monday, had a positive rate of 1.29 percent out of 36,781 samples tested.

The number of people infected with the virus has risen to 6,21,987. In addition, three people died of the sickness during the day, bringing the total number of people who died to 6,170. On Monday, the infection took the lives of two people.

According to the NHM, 1,347 more COVID-19 patients have died to date, but the government's Death Audit Board has not included them in the number of COVID-19-related deaths because they also had other illnesses.

There are 1,588 active coronavirus cases in the state right now. The overall positivity rate is 2.33 percent, based on a total of 2,67,40,616 samples tested thus far.

The NHM also said that a total of 3,80,93,833 vaccination doses were delivered. There are 2,20,08,048 first doses and 1,60,85,785 second doses in this total. According to the report, 2,32,992 people were vaccinated on Tuesday, up from 1,81,501 on Monday. The state government began a COVID-19 vaccination campaign for teenagers aged 15 to 18 years old.
