TINSUKIA: After the Tablighi Jamaat religious congregation in Nizamuddin alarmed health authorities countrywide, with the entire area being declared as hotspot of COVID-19 and several persons from Tinsukia district figuring in the Assam list provided by the government, social media created a havoc by circulating speculative, unauthentic and fake information about the number of persons and their whereabouts that created panic in the district.

Keeping all speculations at bay, an official source in the Tinsukia Health Department told The Sentinel that the 15 people from Tinsukia district who figured in the list had been traced, 7 of them did not return to the State while two persons were from Dibrugarh district. The remaining six have been home quarantined since the past few days after they returned. The health officials picked up all six from their respective homes on Wednesday and sent them to hospital quarantine in LGB Civil Hospital here before sending their blood samples to ICMR Lahowal (Dibrugarh) for COVID-19 test on Wednesday.

The source further clarified that none of the six persons had attended the Jammat congregation in Nizamuddin but they were in and around Nizamuddin for some personal work, adding further that they would be kept under hospital quarantine for some more days even if detected negative.
