61st Lakhimpur Kendriya Rongali Bihu kicks off North Lakhimpur Government Boys’ HS School playground

LAKHIMPUR: The 61st celebration of Lakhimpur Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan kicked off at North Lakhimpur Government Boys’ HS School playground on Monday. Keeping up the past tradition, the colourful cultural procession taken out on the occasion stunned the onlookers in North Lakhimpur town on the first day of the event. The decorated elephant, Gayan-Bayan, Bihu dances, Bagrumba of Boro community, Hazong folk dance, Gorkha folk dance, Jumoi of tea tribes, Bahuwa dance of Sonowal Kachari community along with other cultural items showcased by various tribes and communities of the State, the tableaus of Sati Sadhani, devastation of big river dam, Lachit Borphukan’s act in the Battle of Saraighat and other tableaus were potent enough to draw the attraction of the spectators.

The agenda of the event on the first day began with the unfurling of flags by permanent president of Lakhimpur Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan Committee, Uday Sankar Hazarika and celebration committee president, Nazim Ahmed. Working president Krishna Das led the smriti tarpan programme. It was followed by felicitation of 30 senior citizens of the district. Axam Xahitya Xabha vice-president Dr. Hemanta Kumar Baruah inaugurated the cultural procession wherein cine actor Gunjan Bharadwaz, actresses Himashree and Barbee took part. The Mou Kunwari competition was inaugurated by North Lakhimpur Government Boys’ HS School Principal Deepali Hazarika. On the other hand, the best singers of the various colleges of the district presented their vocal art in the cultural night of the first day which was inaugurated by vocal artiste Mallika Borah.
