61st State Conference of All Assam Ahom Association At Chowkidinghee Field

Dibrugarh: The 61st State Conference of All Assam Ahom Association started at Chowkidinghee Field on Friday. The conference will continue till January 6. The events were kicked-off by a flag hoisting ceremony earlier in the day. Other events scheduled for the day included discussion, book inauguration and debate competition.

The debate, which was yet to start till the filing of this report, would revolve around whether the Ahoms did a mistake by sacrificing their language and culture in the process of formation of a greater Assamese society. The winning team would be rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 5000 and a certificate, the runners-up with Rs 3000 and a certificate and the second runners-up with Rs 2000 and a certificate. Moreover, the best debater would we feted with a certificate and Rs 2000. It is to be noted that the conference was supposed to be held in the first week of December last year, but was pushed back due to the Panchayat elections.
