LAKHIMPUR: The number of COVID-19 positive cases has been increasing in Lakhimpur day by day along with other parts of the State. A total of 62 COVID-19 patients were detected in the district on Thursday and Friday.

Of them, 36 patients were detected on Thursday while the rest 36 patients were reported on Friday. The District Health Department conducted Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on Thursday at the randomly selected places across the district. This test was conducted on almost 1,500 people out of which 36 positive cases were detected. Of them, two persons named Aminul Sheikh (43) and Izazul Ali (24) fled from their respective places and went into hiding.

However, Izazul Ali, resident of Hatilung near North Lakhimpur town, appeared before the health personnel on Friday morning and then he was admitted at the Dedicated COVID Health Centre set up at Boginadi Model Hospital. On the other hand, Aminul Sheikh, who is a vegetable vendor at the North Lakhimpur daily market and resident of Khelmati, was untraceable till the time of filing this report. The Health Department has lodged an FIR against him at North Lakhimpur Police Station.

A total of 16 COVID -19 patients out of 26 were detected through RAT in the district on Friday. On the other hand, 10 patients were found positive as per real time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (rRT-PCR) Test result which was reported from Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh. With these patients, the total number of COVID-19 cases spiked to 638 on Friday. Of them, 427 patients have already been discharged while 211 are active cases.
