70th Republic Day celebrated in Dibrugarh and Tezpur

Dibrugarh: The 70th Republic Day was celebrated at the Dibrugarh Central Eidgah on January 26. Filled with people from all strata and ages, the ceremony started at 8 am. On the occasion, the national flag was hoisted by an elderly citizen named Abdul Haq. Several dignitaries present on the occasion, including Dr. Amrit Baruah of Assam Medical College and Hospital, and senior journalist Ikbal Ahmed delivered speeches befitting the occasion. The speakers, in their speeches, underlined the meaning and significance of a true republic. In a similar initiative, Republic Day was observed at Darul Ulum Madrassa under the guidance of Ainan Zubairi Nadvi, Maulana of the madrassa. Situated close to NH-37, the occasion was also used by the members to offer refreshments to the people travelling on the highway. Slogans promoting inter-faith harmony and amity like ‘Give up violence’, ‘Foster brotherhood and love’ were shouted on the occasion.

Tezpur: Along with rest of the country, the 70th Republic Day was celebrated here in Sonitpur district centrally at Church Field, Tezpur with patriotic fervour and pomp. The tricolour was unfurled by State PHED Minister Rihon Doimari. The minister also inspected the guard of honour and took the salute of the march past participated by the contingents of SSB, Assam Police, Home guard, ITBP, NCC of Tezpur College, Darrang College, Government Boys’ HS School and others. Earlier, he paid tribute to the Father of the Nation and paid homage to the martyrs at the function arena. The programme was attended by local MLA Brindaban Goswami, Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Sonitpur, Narsing Pawar and Kumar Sanjit Krishna respectively, besides other government officers and dignitaries. A cultural programme and prize distribution ceremony were also held. Sanchayita Sujan Sarmah, a student of Class IV, some journalists and other distinguished personalities were felicitated on the occasion.
