7226 Learner's Licenses Delivered Via Online Process in Assam, Apply Here

GUWAHATI: The Assam government in order to move towards hassle-free governance has launched an App for citizens to avail Driving Licenses online.

Meanwhile, within a week of its launch, the state government has issued 7226 people with Learner's Licenses through an online process sitting with comfort from their homes.

Notably, this initiative has led to a paradigm shift in service delivery in governance.

Earlier Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this unique APP will enable people to obtain learner driving licenses sitting at home. Those who need a learner driving license could appear an online test for it by using the App.

Sources said that the learner driving license applicants need not go to the respective District Transport Office (DTO) for a learner license. It would help the people greatly saving their money and time, sources added.

Apply for Driver's License Checklist:

> It is illegal to drive a motor car without having an effective driving license

> A Valid Learner's License is needed

> Application has to be submitted to the nearest DTO

Eligibility Criteria

For applying for a license one must be 18 (eighteen) years of age and for driving a transport vehicle one must be 21 (twenty-one) years of age. But a person attaining the age of 16 (sixteen) years can drive a motorcycle with an engine capacity not exceeding 50CC in a public place.

How to Renew Driving License in Assam?

In the state of Assam, a driving license issued for a private vehicle is valid for 20 years or until the age of 50, while a driving license issued for a commercial vehicle is valid for 3 years from the date of issuance. On expiry of the driving license, an applicant has to renew it to be able to freely drive his vehicle on roads in Assam. Also, the renewal of the driving license has to be done within 30 days from the date of expiry. If the applicant does not renew the DL within the grace period of 30 days, then an additional fee is applicable.

Here's a list of documents that an applicant is required to submit to renew DL in Assam:

Application form in schedule III

Application fee of Rs. 100 along with penalty for late renewal

2 copies of passport size photographs

Form 1 and Form 1A

Driver refresher training certificate, if applying for renewal of driving license for commercial vehicle

Online application process for applying for Renewal of Driving License in Assam :

Visit parivahan.gov.in/sarathiservice5/stateSelection.do

Select Assam as the name of the state

Click on 'apply online' and then click on 'services on driving license'

Click on continue and then fill the applicant details

Submit the form

Upload documents and pay the fees online (check if this facility is applicable for your state)

An application number will be generated.

Visit the RTO along with the relevant documents.

You will have to submit the application number generated to the RTO official verifying your documents.

Once the documents are verified, the renewed DL will be issued to the applicant.
