KOKRAJHAR: BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) IGP (Inspector General of Police) LR Bishnoi on Sunday stated that as many as 80 weapons, including 37 sophisticated ones along with 2,500 rounds of ammunition have been recovered from various locations in the BTC within a year.

In a press conference held here on Sunday, Bishnoi said an average of 6-7 weapons every month was being recovered in the BTC areas through the help of public. He said 22,000 litres of wine and Rs. 51 lakh cash have been seized in the recent days after intensifying the vigil.

"We are taking all precautionary measures in 47 security zones in the BTC area to ensure peaceful, free and fair elections," he said adding that the police has taken up confidence building measures with the public for good relationship while steps are being taken to keep vigil in the inter district border.

The BTC IGP underlined that as many as 30 members either from ex-NDFB and ex-BLT under M. Batha, the dreaded ex-NDFB leader have gone to the jungle. He also said that the rumours of floating of a new armed outfit could not be ruled out. He said the police has been trying to contain the misguided youth to bring them back home. He also said that the continuing seizure of weapons was a good sign to check the growth of militant outfits. On the seizure of weapons, Bishnoi said the continuous recovery of arms and ammunition could be of ex-militant outfits.
