8th Falcon Festival in Dima Hasao: All You Need to Know

UMRANGSO: The beautiful town of Umrangso is getting ready to host the next edition of the popular Falcon Festival of the Dima Hasao region. The event is scheduled to take place in the middle of December.
The Falcon Festival is celebrated with two main ideas in mind. The first is to spread awareness about the Amur Falcon and the second is to promote the traditions and culture of the Dimasa people of the state.
The Amur Falcon is a small and efficient avian hunter belonging to the Falcon family. It is a migratory bird which usually travels to Siberia and Northern China for breeding and makes long-distance flights to Africa. But over the years, a huge population of these birds chose parts of Assam and Nagaland as their roosting destination. The arrival of this bird and the need to preserve them is one of the main areas of conservation in this region. Seminars regarding the protection of this bird will be undertaken at the event.
People coming for the festival will also be able to experience the beautiful hills and valleys of the region. Haflong, the only hill station of Assam offers some breathtaking views and experiences.
The 8th Falcon Festival is scheduled to take place on December 15,16 and 17 on the Golf Course Ground of Umrangso. The key highlights of the celebration include the cultural presentations of the local people in terms of music and dance. Stalls serving local cuisines and local beverages is another highlight of the event. Visitors can also try and take pictures in colourful traditional outfits and buy them if they want to.
Apart from these, there are the cultural nights which see performances from several local and national level artists and attract a huge number of locals as well as travellers. Travellers can also take part in cycling and trekking trips in the region. Fashion competitions and photography events are also part of the grand celebrations. Camping and bonfires will also be organized near the event venue for all the visitors coming from outside.
