Guwahati: A nine-day-old girl from the Hailakandi district of Assam became the youngest person to test positive for Covid-19 in the state on Friday, July 31.

Health officials informed that the baby girl and her mother have been admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for treatment.

Her mother, Nazma Sultana of Bakrihower area of the district, gave birth at home, the officials added. Sultana, however, tested negative for Covid-19, the officials added.

Earlier, the youngest person to test positive in Assam was an 18-day-old baby boy born on July 23, again in Hailakandi district.

Following the detection of positive cases without any travel history, the district administration has conducted random rapid antigen tests in different areas of Hailakandi town on Friday, leading to the detection of more COVID-19 cases.
