9 lakh tea garden labourers to get Aadhaar cards: Sanjay Kishan

TANGLA: Minister of State for Labour and Tea Tribes Welfare, Sanjay Kishan inaugurated an Aadhaar enrolment centre at Orangajuli TE in Udalguri district on Monday. Attending the inaugural ceremony at the garden, he said, "The State Government has decided to resume the Aadhaar enrolment exercise and the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) issued by UIDAI will be strictly followed in this regard wherein more than 9 lakh tea garden labourers will be enrolled and provided Aadhaar cards."

He further said that the tea garden labourers were facing problem in inclusion into various welfare initiatives of the government due to lack of Aadhaar card and the enrolment exercise would go a long way in helping the labourers become beneficiaries of the government schemes.

He also acknowledged the Goodricke Group Limited-run Orangajuli tea garden management body's role in fighting the pandemic and their commitment towards the garden. A high school was established by the tea garden management way back and computer education was provided to the garden students. He also assured of setting up of an ATM machine in Orangajuli TE for the labourers and management.

General Manager of Orangajuli TE, Talat Ahmed expressed his gratefulness to the State Government and North East Small Finance Bank for taking up the initiative to establish the enrolment centre in 'camp mode' in the tea garden. Former Rajya Sabha MP Santiuse Kujur, North East Small Finance Bank officials and officials of Orangajuli TE were present on the occasion.
