A Suspected Criminal and a Fake Journalist Were Arrested

JOYSAGAR: A suspected criminal and a fake journalist were arrested by the Gelakey Police of Sivasagar district on Wednesday from the Deopani Tea Estate area of Sivasagar. As per reports, Gelakey Police launched an operation against a gang which allegedly was troubling some local businessmen and villagers by demanding money and threatening to publish news against them. Finally the mastermind of the gang, identified as Jadumoni Gogoi (34) of Nazira, was caught red-handed in the Deopani area with some cash, one German camera, two mobile phones, three fake ID cards of some media houses and a Maruti car (AS-04-M-0146) which the gang reportedly used. Two women were able to flee. These woman and 5-7 youths of Nazira, Gelakey and Sivasagar town are allegedly involved in many extortion cases. They introduce themselves as media persons and extort money.

Meanwhile, in another incident that took place in the Bokota village of Sivasagar on Wednesday, one person was arrested by the Bokota Police for allegedly sexually harassing a minor girl of the Borbam No-2 village under Bokota Panchayat. The arrested person was identified as Sharat Phukan (51) of Bokota.
