

Justice WA Shishak, former Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court and Himachal Pradesh High Court died on August 3 due to old age ailment. Justice WA Shishak was born on January 1, 1941 at Shangshak village in Ukhrul district of the State of Manipur. He had his early education at Manipur but graduated from Gauhati University in 1963. He passed his LLB in 1965 from Delhi University. He started his practice in Gauhati High Court 1967 but later he shifted to Nagaland in the year 1970. He served as a Senior Government Advocate for the Government of Nagaland for 7 years. He was the president of Nagaland Bar Association. He was appointed as Judge of Gauhati High Court on January 2, 1989, on December 4, 2000 he was elevated to the post of Chief Justice at Chattisgarh High Court.
Later he was transferred as Chief Justice at Himachal Pradesh High Court on January 24,2021. Justice Shishak was retired on January 1, 2023. Late Justice Shishak was a very popular judge of Gauhati High Court. His advised younger advocates to work hard with devotion. When even young advocate appeared before his bench, he used to encourage younger lawyers to grow confidence. His relation between bar and bench was very cordial, but at the same time he was a man of strict discipline and never compromised with any injustice. I had the opportunity to appear before his Lordships on many occasions. Justice Shishak was a man of golden heart. His sudden death has cast a pall of gloom among the legal fraternity. His death was condoled by Gauhati High Court as well as Gauhati High Court Bar Association and the outline benches of Gauhati High Court. He was 82 at the time of his death. I pay my homage to his departed soul for peaceful rest.
