A tribute to Khurideu Junu Barua

Junu Barua, a pious lady of Kalaigaon in Udalguri district with a very soft heart and mind and great simplicity in nature is no more. She has left for the heavenly abode on August 27 following a prolonged illness. Born to the family of Chandra Prasad Bora of Gharpora Chuburi in Tezpur town in 1940, she had completed her primary education from Jubilee School, Tezpur and secondary education from Government High School of Tezpur. She tied the nuptial knot with eminent academic person Kharga Dhar Barua of Bihubhanga village of Sipajhar area of Darrang district on May 27, 1964. Immediately after her marriage she stayed a quite long period in Bhergaon of present Udalguri district as her husband was the founder headmaster of Bhergaon High School.

Continuing her deep involvement in the social activities, she took the lead role in uniting all the women of greater Kalaigaon area under the platform of ‘Kalaigaon Mahila Samiti’ and actively involved with women empowerment and child development. She was also actively involved with ‘Rupalim Moina Parijat’ which was one of the important units of Sadou Asom Moina Parijat. As her husband was deeply involved in the Assam Agitation as the working president of erstwhile All Assam Gana Sangram Parishad and the founder president of Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad, this humble housewife too played an active role in the Assam Movement.

Soft spoken in nature with a caring mind not only to her family members but also to her neighbours, this simple living housewife earned popularity in the locality. Much to the pain and suffering of this pious lady, her husband Kharga Dhar Barua passed away in 1984.

On this day of Adya Shraddha, I share the immense pain and sufferings of both her sons, Dibya Jyoti Barua and wildlife activist Naba Jyoti Barua and daughter Nira Moni at this hour of crisis. I also pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
