A Tribute to Mrinal Das Secretary-General of All Assam Karmasari Parishad

Life and death are the two sides of the same coin. Yet its inevitable nature is often overlooked by us, as we try to embrace the life bestowed upon us and we are unwilling to let it go. Such is the mesmerising effect of life. No matter what, we become so attached that letting go seems like an illusion. Maybe that's one of the reason why we try to preserve it; we pray and wish that this life with our loved ones never ends. Maybe that's the reason acronyms like "YOLO" (You only live once) finds its way into our popular discourses. But unfortunately its beyond anyone's reach to know when this beautiful life chooses to leave us one day. As they say, "Life, Death and Marriage" are the greatest mystery of time. It is also said that your age doesn't define you or your life. Or we say count your life by the experiences not by the number of years you have lived. It what we have achieved through our hard work and perseverance is what matters in the end. People do not remember our clothes, our riches or our material possessions. But they do remember our valuable contribution to the society we are a part of. So even though one perishes one day and leave the mortal world, he will be remembered and respected for the selfless qualities. One such person is my dear friend Mrinal Das, secretary-general of All Assam Karmasari Parishad, who succumbed to COVID and left for his heavenly abode on May 15.

His demise is not only loss to our organisation but it remains a personal loss. But when time comes, death seldom grants us the desire of life. It might snatch the physical body but the truth remains that the identity, the truths, the good deeds and values, the amount of selflessness and sacrifices that a person contributes to society remain in people hearts forever. And this is this humane quality which comes triumphant even after confronting death. Mrinal Das had never discriminated against any work. Like the duties of his government work, he had equally treated the work of our organisation alike. His work spoke of his sincerity, discipline, sacrifice and engagement to core values of the organisation. Rarely anyone needed to remind him of his responsibilities. And one unfortunate moment of death debarred him of completing his work which otherwise he would have done with utmost sincerity. But he would remain in our hearts forever due to his qualities and respect he had towards his work.
