A tribute to my Koka (Kulo Ranjan Pathak)

My koka, Kulo Ranjan Pathak left for his heavenly abode on October 26. Born to Late Mukunda Ram Pathak and Late RosheswariPathak in the small remote village of Sorthebari in the Barpeta district, Koka went on to become a renowned advocate of the Gauhati High Court. After completing his schooling, he engaged himself in farming and then on was encouraged by his elder sister to move on to Guwahati to complete his education.

It was only after his marriage to our AitamaSubarna that he completed his LLB through night classes, besides working at the DC Court during the daytime. Aitama was in perfect consonance to the adage, "Behind every successful man, there is a woman". She had been the perfect homemaker, so to say and our residence at Bharalumukh was a witness to the large gathering of relatives on and off.

Not only Koka was a successful lawyer but the social capital that he built up coming from a small village enabled him to portray himself as an institution by himself.

A successful man bid adieu amidst a host of relatives leaving his loving wife Subarna, one son Justice ManashRanjanPathak, daughter RanimaBaruah, wife of RathindralalBaruah and we, four grandchildren, Koka bade goodbye.

Koka, we will always remember you for your inspiration and motivation most importantly, we will miss you for the years to come.
