A tribute to Ramani Barman

Ramani Barman (75) who was the fifth of the siblings born to Dhirendra Nath Barman (now deceased) and Haramaya Barman (now deceased) of Chowdingee, Dibrugarh on March 8, 1946, had his schooling in Purnanda Primary school there. After passing his Matriculation examination from Dibrugarh Government High (now HS) School, he did his graduation from Nalbari College. Since his student days he was actively associated with various social activities. He was one of the founder members of Puberun Sangha meant for physical and mental development of small children besides being founder of Chowkidingee Youth Club established in 1965. The sole objective of this club was to work for the development of sports and culture. It was because of incessant efforts of this club that organisations like Chowdingee Drama Group, Chowkidingee Cricket Club came into being on later.

He joined the Directorate of Census Operation under Home Department, Government of India at Shillong in 1968 and worked as a very diligent and senior officer there till his superannuation on February 28, 2006. Even after his retirement too he gave his time and effort for the development of Mathuranagar locality of Guwahati where he lived permanently in his own residence. He was loved and admired by all for his amiable disposition. I pray for the eternal peace of his departed soul and extend my sympathy for the members of the bereaved family in the hour of their agony.
