TANGLA: The All Assam Bengali Youth Students’ Federation (AABYSF) on Friday evening staged a protest at Tangla town in Udalguri district claiming that the names of genuine citizens were excluded in the updated final NRC list.

The student organizations, joined by All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU), demonstrated at Tangla Chrali police point. The protesters also shouted slogans against the government and the NRC authority, including its State coordinator. Addressing the protesters, Dibyajyoti Deka of All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) resented that names of many indigenous people from the Koch-Rajbongshi and Bengali Hindu communities were left out in the final NRC.

“There have been vested circles which have conspired to exclude name of genuine people from the NRC,” alleged the president of All Assam Bengali Youth Students’ Federation (AABYSF), Kamal Chowdhury. “We will never tolerate such instances when genuine citizens, including family members of martyrs of the historic Assam Movement, have been left out,” Chowdhury added.

The Bengali student body also exhorted the Hindu organizations of the nation to speak against the apathy of the genuine Hindu citizens who have been harassed and hounded in the name of foreigners. Chowdhury also gave a ultimatum of two months to the State Government and Central Government to include the names of genuine citizens in the NRC and also appealed to the government to facilitate people-friendly ways for the excluded people, including inclusion of names through proper verification at NRC Seva Kendras without facing trials by quasi-judicial bodies like Foreigners Tribunal.
