Darrang: The All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) held a protest on Monday against the recent eviction drive in Darrang district. Members of the group strongly criticized the Assam government, claiming that the eviction was unfair and mainly affected minority communities.

During the protest, AAMSU leaders called Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma a “murderer,” blaming him for the deaths of two people during a previous eviction drive in the same area. They said over 7,000 people have lost their homes, and many children have had to stop going to school.

“This is an inhuman act. People are being thrown out of their homes without proper notice, support, or alternative housing,” said a protestor. Many residents say they had been living there for decades and are now left with nowhere to go.

AAMSU demanded that the government must either pay for the loss or give new land and homes to the affected families. They also said that the eviction seems to target minorities, using the excuse that they are “Bangladeshi immigrants.”

The union warned that if the government does not take action, they will raise the issue directly with the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary of Assam. “Before elections, the displaced families must be given a place to live in peace,” the AAMSU committee secretary added.

The protest ended peacefully but highlighted growing anger among locals about large-scale evictions happening across the state.
