AAMSU slams state education minister Pegu for discriminating minority students

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Minorities Students Union (AAMSU) President Rejaul Karim has slammed the BJP led Assam government and its education minister Ranoj Pegu for not inviting AAMSU in the meeting which was chaired by Pegu to discuss the educational issues of the state.

The AAMSU also accused the government and minister Pegu for discriminating the religious minority community of Assam.

Condemning the act of the state education minister AAMSU president Rejaul Karim said, "We condemn the act of ignoring the minorities from the meeting chaired by our Education Minister Ranoj Pegu. Has the communalism spread by the BJP caught the education department as well? They have invited 36 organizations from various student bodies of tribes and communities to discuss education policies yet no single representative was invited from the minorities,"

He also alleged that the stat government has been ignoring the minorities on socio-economic aspects already but we could have never imagined being ignored on educational aspects.

Karim said that on August 29 last he had written a mail to the education minister Pegu to hold a meeting to discuss various aspects of education system for the improvement.

"I have written a mail on August 29 last he had written a mail to the education minister Pegu to hold a meeting to discuss various aspects of education system for its improvement among the minorities. But it was very unfortunate that I didn't receive any positive response from his end", Karim claimed.

Karim also questioned the chief minister of the state Himanta Biswa Sarma if they really believe in the slogan 'Sab ka Saath, Sab Ka Vikas'.

"If the government want to deprive the students of minority community in education then the education minister should make it clear or we will stage protest", Karim said.

On last Monday the education minister held a meeting with the members of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Coordination Committee of Tribal Organisation Assam (CCTOA) and other student's organizations to discuss various matters related to the education of the state. During the meeting, the officials of the Education Department of Assam were also present.
