DEMOW: Under the patronage of All Adivasi Students' Association of Assam (AASAA), Demow Regional Committee, a two-hour demonstration was staged in front of the Demow Circle Office on Wednesday. The activists of AASAA, Demow Regional Committee shouted various slogans against the BJP government. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the Demow Circle Officer. In the memorandum, the AASAA, Demow Regional Committee activists stated that the labourers of tea estates were getting low wages and it was difficult for them to run their families with such meager wages. They alleged that the BJP government promised to increase the daily wage of tea labourers to Rs.351. But till now no decision has been taken to increase the daily wages of tea labourers. The tea labourers were staying in tea gardens since long but they had been deprived of their land rights.
The AASAA, Demow Regional Committee demanded to increase the daily wages of the tea labourers, to provide land pattas to tea labourers and ST status to the Adivasis.
