AASU carried out Gana Satyagraha against CAA in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) of Golaghat district unit in association with several other organizations of Golaghat district carried out Gana Satyagraha on Wednesday protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

In the protest programme, members of Golaghat BAR Association, College Teachers’ Association, All Assam Karmachari Parishad and other organizations of Golaghat district took part.

More than ten thousand of people gathered near the Swahid Bhawan of Golaghat AASU and carried out the protest rally throughout the Golaghat town. The protesters raised various slogans against the Central government as well as the State government for bringing the Citizenship Act.

Earlier, a meeting was held where Golaghat BAR Association’s secretary Durga Prasad Jaisowal, senior journalist Dwipen Dutta, senior persons of Golaghat delivered brief speeches over Citizenship (Amendment) Act. The College teachers’ Association, Golaghat BAR Association, Golaghat Maruawari Samaj, Golaghat Motor Paribahan Sangstha assured to provide Rs. 1 lakh each and Golaghat Bengali Samaj donated Rs. 50 thousand to Golaghat AASU for proceeding PIL at Supreme Court of India.

All the organizations and individuals gathered in the Gana Satyagraha strongly opposed the CAA, and demanded immediate withdrawal of the controversial Act.
