AASU Demands PM to Cover Namrup's BVFCL under Rs 20 Lakh Cr Package

Guwahati:

The Namrup unit of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) today demand before PM to cover Namrup situated Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited under the historic 20 lakhs crore economic package, that was declared recently.

In this regard, the AASU 's Namrup unit sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Dibrugarh District Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha. In the memorandum undersigned by Namrup's AASU president Kalpajit Gogoi and general secretary Ashim Phukan, the student body urged upon the PM to cover the BVFCL Namrup under the economic package "to increase the efficiency of the plant to enhance the supply of nitrogen fertilizers to the farmers of the Assam."

"It is seen that the honourable PM in his recent address to the media had advocated the promotion and strengthening of the local industries. So we urge the government to cover the Namrup Fertilizer industry in the economic package of the PM to renovate the existing N-ll and DN -lll groups of plant", the AASU wrote to the PM. The student body further called upon the PM to set up the long pending 4th plant in Namrup for a "long term perspective to meet the growing demand" of the farmers, stated the AASU.

Pointing tp the "broken promises" of the previous Governments in setting up of the fourth plant of the BVFCL the AASU mentioned that after the visit of then Fertilizer Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on June 26 of 2006, it was decided to set up the fourth plant accordingly in the form of a joint venture. "But after a long period of 14 years, the demand of the masses of the state for establishing the fourth plant was totally ignored", the AASU lamented in its communique.
