LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) demanded the State Government to stop the ongoing road construction by the neighbouring State of Arunachal Pradesh encroaching upon the land of Assam belonging to the Ranga Reserve Forest. In this regard, the organization slammed Lakhimpur district administration and Forest Division for their 'failure' to check the illegal encroachment.

Expressing extreme resentment over the issue, Lakhimpur AASU president Pulokjyoti Borah and general secretary Dhanmoni Dutta stated in a press release said that the people from Arunachal Pradesh had been constructing roads, establishing government offices and setting up agriculture and fishery farms on the land of Assam after rendering massive encroachment.

"The people from across the border have exposed their aggression by encroaching upon various parts in the Assam-Arunachal border areas under Lakhimpur district. Though the Lakhimpur district administration and the State Government have been consecutively demanded to take action against the encroachers, it is seen that no step has been taken as yet. The encroachment has been going on unabatedly at Kimin, Dollung and Ranga Reserve Forest due to the dereliction on the part of the Forest Division of the district. In this regard, Arunachal Pradesh has been violating the order issued by the Supreme Court in order to maintain the status quo on inter-State border dispute," the Lakhimpur AASU president and general secretary stated in the press release.

They further added that the Government of Arunachal Pradesh had been constructing the road on Assam's land belonging to the Ranga Reserve Forest under Naoboicha Revenue Circle. "Despite this, the Lakhimpur district administration and the Forest Division have still not taken any steps against the illegal development and that is why the encroachers dare to do so," they alleged. Under such circumstances, Lakhimpur AASU demanded the State Government to stop the road construction work and to redeem the native land by evicting the encroachers.
