AASU Goalpara College Unit Opposes Issuing NOCs to College Teachers

Goalpara: The Goalpara town unit as well as the Goalpara College unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Principal of Goalpara College with an appeal not to give No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the six teachers who are preparing to leave the college for different academic purposes.

“Most of them are senior teachers and loved and appreciated by the students. If they are allowed to leave, there will be vacuum in the college which will negatively impact the academic side and the student community is sure to suffer the loss,” remarked Bedanta Kashyap, president of Goalpara town unit of AASU.

Among the six teachers, four teachers have applied for the NOC for university-level teaching. On the other hand, two teachers are looking forward to join in the same sanctioned posts in some other colleges outside the district. The departments from which the teachers have applied for NOC are English, History, Zoology and Physics.

Meanwhile, the governing body in a meeting held during September reportedly took a resolution not to issue NOCs to all the teachers at a time for the greater interest of the college. The Goalpara College teachers have also stood in favour of the applicant teachers. “We staged demonstration demanding the issuing of the certificates and the Principal has taken a week’s time to resolve it,” said a senior college teacher preferring anonymity.

“Seeking NOC does not mean that we are leaving the college. We need the certificate only to sit in the interview. However, there is every likelihood that all the applicant teachers will not be appointed by the universities where they are applying for the posts,” he said. According to the latest report, several other student organizations are mulling to protest against issuing NOCs in the next few days.
