TINSUKIA: Terming the anti-CAA stir as the “last battle of Saraighat”, the Tinsukia Regional Students’ Union (AASU) organized a massive protest in association with Chatra Ekata Sabha, a conglomerate student body representing three colleges of Tinsukia, against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 at Senairam Boarding Field on Saturday. More than 4,000 people from all walks of life joined the agitation programme.

The programme began with a poem recited by Parul Devi Sarma, an octogenarian social activist, and poet. Despite her fragile health she attended the protest rally and prayed for the well-being of the society. The demonstration was addressed by Udipta Jyoti Gogoi, a member of the central executive committee of AASU, Pranjal Neog, general secretary of Tinsukia district committee AJYP, Arunjyoti Moran, president of AMSU, and other leaders. The speakers were unanimous in opposing the Act and vowed to fight tooth-and-nail till it was withdrawn.
