LAKHIMPUR: The activists of Dhemaji district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) showed black flag to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday on his arrival in the district to attend only the party meeting and 'not to pay attention to resolve the multiple problems of the district'.

Notably, the Chief Minister arrived in Dhemaji on Friday afternoon to take part in a party programme in the district after laying the foundation stone of the multipurpose flood shelter in Lakhimpur. Then the Dhemaji AASU activists, led by presidentDipakSarmah and general secretary KalyanGogoi, staged massive protest programme by showing the Chief Minister black flag and taking out a large bike rally.

By staging the protest programme, Dhemaji AASU slammed the Chief Minister 'for not granting compensation to the flood victims of the district, who were severely affected by the flood caused by rivers like Chiyang, Lali, Jiadhol and Simen during the last rainy season and taking no initiative to rehabilitate the homeless people'.

The organization also flayed the Chief Minister for making U-turn from his previous stand of opposition to the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, for not ensuring appointment and engagement to 23 lakh unemployed youths of the State as per his poll promise, alleged failure of extraditing the illegal foreigners and inability of holding recruitment exams, including the SI recruitment exam, in a free and fair manner.

Dhemaji AASU president DipakSarmah stated that the visit of the Chief Minister could not bring any ray of hope to the district because he did not take any step to resolve the burning problems of the district. "So the Chief Minister will face protest programme whenever he comes to the district," DipakSarmah said.
