AASU stages massive protest against 'corruption' in Revenue Circle offices in Dhemaji

LAKHIMPUR: Vehemently opposing the alleged corruption and irregularities unabatedly going on in the Revenue Circle Offices in Dhemaji district and public harassment by the lot mandals and other employees of the offices concerned, the activists of the Dhemaji district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) staged strong protest programme in the district headquarter on Saturday.

In this connection, the organization took out a massive protest rally from Swahid Udyan premises of Dhemaji town. Leading the protest programme, district AASU president Dipak Sarmah declared that the organization would intensity the stir unless the corruption, irregularities and public harassment in the four Revenue Circle Offices under the district were controlled immediVehemently opposing the alleged corruption and irregularities unabatedly going on in the Revenue Circle Offices in Dhemaji district and public harassment by the lot mandals and other employees of the offices concerned, the activists of the Dhemaji district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) staged strong protest programme in the distritely. In this regard, AASU State executive member Gopal Das, district adviser Subhas Buragohain and general secretary Kalyan Gogoi also became vocal against the issues. They unanimously condemned the public harassment done by the lot mandals and other officials concerned while processing to record the land under the permanent ownership of the landholders (myadikaran). The organization alleged that most of the rural landholders could not move for the process due to the corrupt mentality of a section of employees of the offices concerned. As a result of it, the deprived landholders have to suffer a lot on various occasions.

Notably, a lot mandal under Dhemaji Revenue Circle Office was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau while taking bribe on Friday.

While staging the protest, the protesters rocked the environment of the town by shouting various slogans in support of their demands. Later, the organization submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the Deputy Commissioner of the district demanding his initiative to control the alleged corruption in the Revenue Circle Offices and to launch inquiry against the corrupt officials. Through the same memorandum, the organization also demanded him to take steps to fix a stipulated period for the land myadikaran and to release the myadi patta for the applicants.
