AASU stages sit-in against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill at Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Stir initiated by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill continues in Lakhimpur district.

The Kherajkhat Border regional unit under Lakhimpur District AASU, led by president Madhab Borah and general secretary Haren Saikia, staged a sit-in at the commercial centre in Pathali Pahar in the Lakhimpur-Arunachal border area on Saturday demanding the scrapping of the contentious Bill and strongly opposing the approval of the same by the Union Cabinet on Wednesday.

Retired Principal of Sankardeva College, Mahendra Nath Borah, Dhemaji district AASU former president Jitu Borah and many other dignitaries were present in the agitation programme. The activists of the Pothali Pahar unit of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) also took part in the programme where students of various schools and colleges and activists of 30 organizations were present.
