AASU To Confer The Prestigious Pratima Barua Pandey Award 2022 To Eklavya Gham

GUWAHATI : Following the ritual, just like every year, this year too the All Assam Students Union ( AASU ) will confer the Pratima Pandey Award 2022. Eklavya Gham hailing from Dhemaji has been selected for the prestigious award.

The ceremony will be held on the 27th of December which is also the death anniversary of Pratima Barua Pandey. It is to be noted that, the celebration will be carried out on the death anniversary of the melodious and iconic singer Pratima Pandey who introduced Goalparia Lokageet to the world.

Last year, the award was presented to one of the most popular folk artist and Bihu Samrat, Khagen Gogoi. Khagen Gogoi sung several hit songs. Also he was seen collaborating with Assam's singing sensation Zubeen Garg in many celebrations. Khagen Gogoi was also a part of MTV coke studio along with Shankar Mahadevan.

The Padmashree Pratima Barua Pandey memorial award ceremony took place in Chandmari. The award included a Gamocha, a Xorai and an amount Rs 25,000. Pratima Barua Pandey was born on 3rd October 1934 and took her last breathe on December 2022. She was the daughter of Prakritish Chandra Barua.

The famous folksinger is a national awardee and her songs Hastir Kanya and Mur Mahut Bandhure was appreciated all over. She did not take any formal training when it comes to singing, however she was inspired by her father's encouraging words. Pratima Barua Pandey was awarded with the prestigious Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Academi for tremendous efforts in promoting and popularising Goalpariya Lokageet.

A biography was also made on her life and achievements, which earned the National Film Award for Best Biographical Film in the year 1997. The name of the film was Hastir Kanya. Apart from that, Bobby Sarma Baruah initiated a full length feature film based on her life in 2015, namely Sonar Baran Pakhi, which got released in the year 2016.
